TIPS ON NAVIGATING EUGENE BABY EXPO
So, if you're a mum in Hong Kong, you would have undoubtedly gotten to hear about the Eugene Baby Fairs. These events are held twice a year, once in February and once in August. They're well known for having the best deals in town, but they are also MONSTER events - be prepared for massive crowds, lots of yelling and a maze of vendors. Having said that, if you're brave enough to head down, you'll find some amazing savings. So, here are some of our top tips to navigate the fair.
1. DO YOUR HOMEWORK
Eugene Baby's Fairs are big, and they have great deals and savings, but you have to be smart about navigating the maze of shops and hordes of peoples. One way to do that is to do your research beforehand. Find out which vendors will be at the fair, and what special promotions they'll be offering! You can check out the complete list of discount below, download the PDF for later use, or check directly on Eugene Group’s official page.
2. BRING FRIENDS OR FAMILY
The more the merrier when you take on this mammoth of a fair. If you're looking to score that amazing deal on a child seat, play mat, or pram - remember these are big items. So, you'll definitely need some help carrying these items around while going down your shopping list. Don't be afraid to rope in friends or family to be your muscle for the day.
3. COUPON SAVINGS
Eugene usually offers a coupon booklet at each of their fairs for a small fee like HK$20 or HK$25. If you're a fan of coupon cutting or getting freebies - don't forget to get a copy of this booklet. The booklet lists deals and freebies you can collect throughout the expo.
4. PREPARE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION
Next point: Many of these vendors will hand out freebies and gifts in exchange for your contact information, so unless you want to spend lots of time writing down that information by hand, you could try preparing a sheet of stickers with all your relevant contact information. That way, you can just stick a copy on the coupon, hand it over for your freebie, and move on! Some relevant information you'll want to include is your name, your HKID number, your telephone number, address, and email.
5. STAY HYDRATED
If you want to go all out, prepare some sustenance! The food isn't great at the expos, and the drinks will be expensive and hard to find. So, bring some of your own snacks and some bottles of water, so you have enough energy to hunt down those deals!
6. AVOID SATURDAYS
Saturday will likely be the most crowded day of the expo. If you can help it, try heading over during the weekday period of the event. Timing also matters on weekdays- try to go during the daytime to avoid the after-office crowd.
7. GETTING THERE
Public Transportation is the easiest way to get there. Take the MTR to Wan Chai and get out at exit A1 or A2. Follow the crowd and walk towards the expo centre via the footbridge. If you would like to drive to HKCEC, it's best to get there early to secure a parking spot. Parking at the Wan Chai expo is expensive (around HK$32/hour) but if you park the whole day (until 6pm), the fee is HK$190. You'll have to prepay for the day parking fee at the Shroff office immediately after you’ve parked your car - *not* at the end of the day when you’re about to exit. Do not exit with your Octopus card and expect to get a day parking concession rate. The machine will charge you an hourly rate.
8. GETTING OUT
You found lots of good deals - a pram, a bed, lots of toys, and CIGOGNE BéBé clothes! Woohoo! What do you do now? Taxi queues are long and won't fit all the goodies you bought. Why not call ahead and get a van? Order a van through Gogovan and relax until your van arrives to pick you up. We like getting picked up at the main lobby of the new wing. That's just one level below Hall 1.
THE EXPO'S FLOOR PLAN
The Fair will be taking place in Hall 1 & 3 of HKCEC. All 7 mini-halls (Hall 1A-E and hall 3B-C) will be filled with booths selling discounted baby products from your favourite baby retailers. It is literally the biggest baby fair in Hong Kong. To make it easier for you to navigate through the massive site and find what you need, we have the floor plan right here for you! All you need to do is figure out the number of the booths you intend to visit. Click here to download the floor plan.
Of course, we got to let you know where we are at, too! Our booth is at Hall 1, U16 as indicated on the map. Please come and say hi!
EXPO PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS
The 4-day-long Eugene Baby Expo has more to offer than just booths selling and promoting baby products! In fact, there are loads of events taking place at the main stage of Hall 1. The expo programme is packed with events - talks, sharing sessions, performances, and the likes! These should serve as a great breather despite the crowdedness and intense shopping craze!
Of all the events going on at the expo, there are 2 main happenings you wouldn’t want to miss out:
4 AUG (SAT):
第30屆全港嬰兒慈善馬拉松爬行大賽決賽 The 30th Hong Kong Baby Crawling Contest - Finals
5 AUG (SUN):
第16屆全港最靚孕媽媽選舉決賽 - The 16th Hong Kong Pregnant Mothers Beauty Contest - Finals
You might want to include these in your itinerary as you plan for your visit!
